           Established in 2016, as a project of Sunfish Farms Limited, a pioneering family business in the Ugandan aquaculture industry since 1997, Nyasi Eco Resort has undergone a remarkable transformation. In 2016, Sunfish Farms redirected its focus towards environmental conservation and restoration, converting its commercial fish farm and hatchery into a breathtaking eco-friendly resort. Today, Nyasi Eco Resort stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of sustainable tourism and ecological preservation.

A Commitment to Environmental Conservation 

  

         From its inception, environmental conservation has been the bedrock of our family business. Our journey began with the rehabilitation of a degraded piece of land ravaged by excavated clay quarries. Through meticulous planning, we constructed fish ponds, a water reservoir, and a network of channels, ensuring a year-round flow of water. This comprehensive water management system not only prevents flooding during the rainy seasons but also safeguards a vital water reserve during the dry periods.

Creating a Haven for Wildlife 

​

           As urbanization encroached upon the surrounding areas, displaced wildlife sought refuge in our fish farm. In response, we took decisive action by planting expansive hardwood forests, offering sanctuary to diverse species, including birds, reptiles, monkeys, and otters. To support our reforestation efforts, you can contribute by planting a tree. The benefits of reforestation extend beyond providing a habitat for animals; it enhances air quality, cools down temperatures during hot-dry seasons, and grants urban dwellers a rejuvenating escape to nature, fostering their mental and physical well-being. Embracing Ecotourism for a Greener Future 

  

         Nyasi Eco Resort, an environmentally-friendly establishment developed by Sunfish Farms Limited, embodies our vision to incorporate ecotourism and engage the community in safeguarding our environmental resources. Central to our ethos is the Reforestation Project, where we have meticulously planted thousands of indigenous hardwood trees such as Musizi, Mahogany, and Muvule. These trees, with their long maturation period of 30 to 50 years, not only nurture our Bird Sanctuary and forest-dwelling animals but also serve as resilient carbon sinks, combating the increasing air pollution in this peri-urban locale. We prioritize clean energy, relying extensively on solar electricity to power our operations. Our commitment to water conservation is evident through a sustainable drainage and rainwater harvesting scheme. Additionally, we diligently sort and recycle waste, while utilizing biodigester septic tanks to treat sewer water for safe and eco-friendly waste management. 

  

         Over two decades, Sunfish Farms Limited has left an indelible mark on the community. Our efforts have not only revitalized depleted fish stocks and reduced carbon dioxide emissions but also created employment opportunities and fostered growth in forestry, fishing, and sustainable ecotourism.
